In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Philadelphia; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Pennsylvania are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

The business lists hours on 2 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 AM–9:30 PM. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (215) 923-8880. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, dimsumfactorypa.com.

I visited Tom’s Dim Sum on Sunday before 8:45pm, but they told me it was take‑out only, even though the sign on the door says they close at 10:00pm. Several other customers walked in and looked confused as well. As for the food, don’t expect too much β€” it’s just okay and passable, nothing memorable.

I recently stopped by Tom's Dim Sum during lunchtime, and overall, my experience was a mix of pros and cons. The location itself is in a convenient area, and when I walked in, the environment was calm, quiet, and nicely set up. It wasn’t too crowded around 12 PM, which I appreciated. However, the customer service could definitely use some improvement. Both visits, I felt a bit rushed while ordering, like I needed to make a quick decision instead of being able to comfortably look over the menu. On my first visit, my coworker and I ordered the chicken wings. They were decentβ€”lightly seasoned, not overly salty, and gave β€œquick grab-and-go” vibes. Nothing too special, but not bad either. I decided to give them another try on a second visit, hoping for the same or better experience. Unfortunately, this time the wings didn’t hit the same. They had a powdery texture and lacked flavor, with very minimal seasoning. After biting into them, I also questioned the cleanliness/prep of the chicken, which made the experience less enjoyable overall. One thing to note: there is a $10 minimum for card payments, and the wings were around $8, so keep that in mind if you’re stopping in for a quick bite.

I ordered General tso's, sesame beef and Singapore noodles . One of the worst General tso's. Tasted more like a sweet and sour sauce. Not to mention the sesame beef and the chicken dish both had the same sauce. Horrible. The Singapore noodles flavor was just about there but there was hardly any chicken pork and I only had two shrimp in it. The portion of noodle to meat not worth the price. This place is not worth your time with so many other good Chinese restaurants around. Save your money go elsewhere. Not to mention I got no silverware sauces or plates. I was told they do not have any. What kind of restaurant serving takeout is that?

Amazing street food and a gem to find. They were busy when we went in late and had people coming in until we left. The Bang Bang shrimp was out of the world as were the soup dumplings!!

This is a great location across from the hotel or to get out of heat with a lot of seating. Service was great and price is very cheap. However, the food was not bad but seemed like it was sitting, waiting to be served versus fresh or at least recently made. We ordered and got our food within 5 minutes. Everything was hot but felt like it was sitting under a heating lamp, if that makes sense. We got scallion pancakes, which were large, non greasy and did not skimp on scallions. We also got pork soup dumplings and spicy pork fried dumplings. The fried dumpling was fried perfectly with the crust but very doughy. We also had chicken skewers (curry flavor I believe) which were very large and general so chicken and veggies (great variety).
